For all, that missed the thread, here we go:
http://forum.pardus.at/index.php?showtopic=24658

So what is it all about ?

Simple, I did create a FBT (Federation Battle Trainer) ripoff, which is a little outdated right now.
Finished ? No, not really - and it's still a low priority project.

Here you can have some screenshots so far:

This are all available locations and (xp) missions for the first release.
That comes with a cost of course: No exotic armor or exotic equipment; only Union and Empire factions (Dojo) will be available.

I plan to increase the content of the game after it's first release of course.

Story board for the "The Crazy Peacemakers" campaign:

*** WARNING: Spoilers ahead ***

Story summary:

The player will join TCP shortly before the Nusakan massacre.
First there are only simple tasks like removing Space maggots near mines or killing our famous Space worm pet.

Inty pirate attacks:
I'm planning two/three missions, just stopping pirates in Inties. This will be a low rank mission, so they won't be that hard.

Nusakan massacre:
The player has to prevent the destruction of Guardian in his BBB. Assigned pilots for the task are myself in a Chitin plus two other pilots. The location won't be Nusakan but UNI-PASS-05.

Space Crystal removal:
The player has to remove two Space Crystal:
The first for Zoria (supported by Q Roger in a Horpor) and the second one for myself (no additional support; that's a lone wolf mission).

The recapture of The Crazy Marshmellow:
While TCM is recaptured, the player plus one other fighter will support the operation by hunting enemy fighters. No idea, what kind of fighters yet, maybe a great evil non-empire alliance ... however not a strong one.

The Union-Empire war:
Fictional border disputes. Not many ideas here, but it should be not too easy.

The secret weapon of TCP:
Beside those one-mission stories, I'm planning a big one two, involving Conglo and us in a secret Empire-Union-weapon project.
The result will be an unique orbiter (attack drone). The missions may be protecting a trader convoy, getting intelligence and stuff.
After this project is finished, you automatically get this orbiter attached.

The final mission:
The final mission will be a dog fight against Jesus Nix and Scarecrow, while protecting the Nusakan nook. Yep, this will be not an easy task.

Voice actors:
I will need voice actors for
  • Support fighters.
  • Traders delivering robots and drugs.
  • Mission victims (mostly traders *g*).
  • Mission narrator (I would love to have Q for this).

The voices will be recorded after everything else is finished. Stay patient.

Rank system:

You gain skills by hitting creatures (HIT) and getting hit by them (MAN).
You gain experience by killing creatures and of course completing missions.

Rank however, is different:

You gain rank by doing campaign missions only.
So in the Freelancer campaign, you won't be able to rank up.

Comments:

That's it, not very much and I have to admit, I dropped a lot of details.
You may notice, the TCS campaign will need at least 120% more sectors than the first release. So it will be started after that release.

Any comments are welcome, but please, no additional missions ... it's pretty packed alleady.

It's a bit anachronistic to have me around at the same time as Q is flying a Horpor. I don't mind, though.  Happy

Okay, okay, let's say Q in a Hawk and you in a El Padre *g*.

The basic ideas were:

  • Having the Horpor as support in the game too and not only Hawks.
  • Giving the game a little female touch *g*.

Just go with the Horpor as a Hawk would be anachronistic too. Roll Eyes

Giving the game a little female touch

Hey, Rubber is a female.  LLTF could use some hot Rubber action!  Cheerleader

Have Rubber docked at the Nusakan MO, blasting pirate fairies from the sky - or more likely curled up crying in a corner as they enslave me  Slaves- obviously unaffected by my charm and whimsy.  Wub

And by female I mean a mechanical being that takes the shape of Keldon female that is unknowingly being manipulated by a dark master in a parallel universe in an attempt to distribute Roomba Vaccuum cleaners across the galaxy in a cunning attempt to enslave all organic creatures in a triumph of metal over flesh.

Or was that just obvious to everybody when I said female?   Happy

Sure yeah, sounds great, but no *g*.

Navigation works a little different in LLTF.
All locations are connected per navigation missions.
Okay, some locations have quick navigation, so the mission is dropped (for example Homam Planet<>TO).

If we want to see a rubber girl crying at Nusakans MO, there have to be a mission.
And currently there's no place for a mission like that *g*.

On the other hand, you raise an important point: Can you fake female ? LOL

Sound effects and music will be an important part for LLTF.

I just finished the sound plug-in for DirectSound, so the hard part was to pick the style of the music:

LLTF - Main screen music (mp3)

I hope, you like the approach.

BTW it's the remastered (free available) sound track of "The Urquan Masters", a freeware resurrection project of "Star Control II".

And of course, campaigns can include own music (for example for campaign missions).

Today is accouting day, so shareholders behold and treasurers hide *g*.

On another topic (the main topic, AFAIR), some new screenshots for LLTF:

Those shots add some really interesting things:

  • All available orbiter and commodities. What day do remains a secret *g*.
  • "The Crazy K" is already there ... yep, I designed WW-something today Wink.
  • And last but not least a first sneak preview about those mysterious tech shops.

Now for something completely different:

Behold, you first sneak into a LLTF "Making-of":

Here you see the LLTF Editor, where all things are put together.
The editor has different "plug-ins", here you saw the shiny area designer.

As I have mentioned above, missions in LLTF are assigned different areas.
In this specific screenshot, you see the area of the western nebula field.

So the scrolling background for areas are always the same (including maximum mission length), but the missions themselves (including encounters) are separated, so it will differ from mission to mission.

"Area" is an old term I'm using - it's more like a route. This example begins at Homam and ends there as well. If you complete your mission before you reach the planet again, the mission will be ended instantly.

That begs the question:
What happens if you can achieve mission goals before you reach the planet again ?

Simple answer: You failed.

But compared to Pardus, this won't be happening a lot. Death is a more usual way to fail.

Besides, the "scroll" speed depends on current available obstacles; without any danger in sight, the game automatically jumps to "speed-mode" to decrease boring flying without action.

Oh, as I said, I will have plenty tasks for the future, like creating a lot areas and of course the voices. But right now, I'm sticking to basics ... and my tile scrolling looks still a little goofy.
I think the main reason are the original Pardus tiles I'm using, but eh, they can be replaced like most other stuff in LLTF (no gigantic content package like most other games).
